Remedies
Injected damp proof courses are an attempt to
provide physical barriers to rising dampness they can do
nothing for the condition of plaster which is already
contaminated. Replastering preferably using a washed sharp
sand and cement render with a good waterproofer, must be
carried out and in fact is important than a new chemical damp
proof course. As a company, we will inject brick walls but
prefer to only replaster flint and stone walls as the success
of injected damp proof courses in these media is debatable.
Tanking is a specialised form of plastering for
subterranean structures to prevent penetrating dampness from
affecting internal wall surfaces. It is also possible to use a
rigid plastic membrane as a form of lining for such
structures. Both have advantages and disadvantages and a
careful survey must be undertaken to determine which method is
appropriate.
